After visualizing a nice bladder full of urine (Figure 1 above), you perform the suprapubic aspiration under dynamic ultrasound guidance. Figure 2 (below) shows the hyperechoic needle tip indenting the superficial bladder wall as it enters the bladder lumen.

The parents are impressed with your procedural skills, and are even more appreciative when you inform them of their daughter’s pristine urine results. With a handshake and a smile, the parents thank you for your excellent care and mention how every health care facility should have one of those ultrasound contraptions. Now, if only you could figure out how you can use ultrasonography to cure the common cold….Ahhhchoooo!
